The Bell Tower Block Party slated for Aug. 29 has been cancelled, but the Jefferson park and recreation department plans to hold a Fun Run and 5K and 10K races that morning. As a new twist, $100 cash prizes will be awarded for their races.
Pre-race check-in opens at the Greene County Community Center at 7 am. The one mile Fun Run starts at 8, with the 5K and 10K races starting at 8:20. All routes start and end at the community center.
The entry fee for each event is $30. Family groups of four or more runners will receive a 20 percent discount on the entry fees.
Canines are welcome, too, for an additional $10 fee. Canine fees will be donated to the new animal shelter building fund.
Greater Life Chiropractic is donating $100 cash prizes for the top male and female finishers younger than 40 and older than 40 in the 5K race, and the top male and female finishers in the 10K race (six prizes total).
A minimum of 50 entrants is needed to hold the event.
